The
newspaper "The Independent" that the British uprising against the
regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad lead to the emergence of a
new wave of jihadists in Britain. The newspaper reported that London condone "Tourism jihad" that Syria has become its main direction. The
newspaper quoted sources in the security agencies that Syria has
replaced Pakistan and Somalia as the country's most attractive for
Islamist volunteers, allowing them the opportunity to participate
directly in hostilities without facing any serious obstacles by the
authorities. The newspaper added that this
development came in conjunction with the rise of the leading role of
extremist groups, some of which acknowledges the existence of links to
al-Qaeda, in the uprising against the Syrian regime.
